Welcome to Valkyrie Counseling Group, LLC
Valkyrie Counseling Group is the professional, publishing, and developmental home for the work of Steve R. Patterson and Juliana Tabares. Co-owned by Steve and Juliana, Valkyrie serves as the foundation for published books, facilitator resources, recovery-oriented frameworks, and long-form teaching projects.
Valkyrie is not a clinic and not a traditional counseling agency. It does not currently offer direct counseling services. Instead, Valkyrie exists as a place where practical recovery frameworks, group facilitation models, written resources, and professional education can be developed and shared.
The work here grows out of lived experience, clinical practice, group facilitation, recovery, reinvention, and long-term study. It is not built around theory alone. It comes from years of working with people in real groups, real crisis points, real resistance, and real change.
What Valkyrie Does Now
Valkyrie now focuses on three related areas:
- Publishing and educational resources connected to Healing Pathways, ASAM Level 1 outpatient groups, recovery, dependency, and personal transformation.
- Facilitator education for counselors, recovery coaches, peer-support workers, and group leaders who want to build more useful, human, and engaging recovery-oriented groups.
- Coaching and consultation for facilitators who want help improving group structure, participant engagement, resistance management, and practical session flow.
Valkyrie discusses counseling, recovery, group facilitation, dependency, change, and healing. However, the work offered here is educational and consultative. It is not counseling, therapy, diagnosis, treatment, crisis intervention, or clinical supervision.
The ASAM Level 1 Facilitator’s Guide
One of Valkyrie’s current central projects is the ASAM Level 1 Facilitator’s Guide to Outpatient Groups. This guide was created for counselors, recovery coaches, peer-support professionals, and group facilitators who want a structured but flexible way to lead outpatient recovery groups.
The guide is practical by design. It is meant for real groups, not idealized classrooms. It addresses silence, resistance, disengagement, group fatigue, dependency, accountability, values, relapse patterns, and the need for plain language that people can actually use.
Valkyrie is also developing a companion YouTube series that walks through the ASAM Level 1 Facilitator’s Guide section by section. These videos are intended for facilitators who want help applying the material in real group settings.
The Valkyrie YouTube series will focus on practical facilitation, including how to open groups, frame discussion, respond to resistance, avoid unnecessary clinical jargon, and keep recovery groups structured without making them mechanical.

Healing Pathways
The Healing Pathways Companion and The Healing Pathways Facilitator’s Guide remain part of the larger Valkyrie body of work. These books offer a narrative-based, integrative approach to recovery, healing, and transformation.
The Companion is written for the individual reader. It invites reflection, journaling, narrative practice, and personal exploration. The Facilitator’s Guide supports group leaders, counselors, recovery coaches, and facilitators who want to bring the Healing Pathways framework into group or community settings.
Going forward, the public-facing Healing Pathways video series and live conversations will be hosted through Wind and Raven. This keeps the more reflective, personal, spiritual, and community-facing side of Healing Pathways separate from Valkyrie’s professional facilitator education work.
On the Wind and Raven YouTube channel, Steve Patterson will walk through the Healing Pathways material chapter by chapter. The videos will explore recovery, healing, dependency, story, identity, meaning, personal transformation, and the mind-body-spirit framework behind the program.
These videos and future live conversations are educational and reflective. They are not counseling, therapy, clinical treatment, crisis support, or a substitute for professional care.

Our Published Work
Valkyrie is the publishing and developmental home for:
- The Healing Pathways Companion
- The Healing Pathways Facilitator’s Guide
- ASAM Level 1 Facilitator’s Guide to Outpatient Groups
- This Is How It Feels to Heal
- One Life to Be You by Juliana Tabares
- El Código Femenino by Juliana Tabares
These projects are connected by a shared concern: how people recover, adapt, tell the truth about their lives, return to themselves, and build something more honest from what they have survived.
Juliana Tabares
Juliana Tabares is an author, researcher, and creative partner in Valkyrie Counseling Group. Her work explores authenticity, feminine identity, career reinvention, personal transformation, and the process of returning to the self after years of living through external expectations.
She is the author of One Life to Be You and El Código Femenino.
One Life to Be You speaks to people who feel trapped inside careers, corporate systems, or life structures that no longer reflect who they are. It invites readers to question the cost of staying in a life that drains them and to begin the process of reinvention with honesty, courage, and practical self-reflection.
El Código Femenino expands Juliana’s work into feminine essence, identity, archetypes, inner polarity, shadow, lineage, and the deeper exhaustion many women experience after years of trying to succeed inside models that were never designed around their nature. Written in Spanish, the book offers a return-to-self framework for women who are ready to question inherited scripts and recover a more authentic relationship with their own power.
Juliana is not currently offering active coaching through Valkyrie Counseling Group. Her work continues through her books, writing, and public creative presence.
